The Judiciary embarked on an aggressive sensitization campaign on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Teams are moving in Amuru, Nwoya, Gulu and Kitgum carrying out community outreach activities on Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms available in courts.
The sensitization at Amuru Court could not take place since the rains have cut off the road to the court.
In Nwoya District, the acting District Police Commissioner Cadet ASP Micah Nuwamanya commended the courts for the initiative saying it will help reduce the land disputes predominant in the area.
When the team visited Villanova Market in Koch Goma, Nwoya District, the market leadership urged the Judiciary to schedule a longer interaction at the facility. Mr George Obol, the proprietor of the market said there was need for the different associations to have a dedicated time where they are skilled on how to use Mediation to settle the different disputes that arise.
He further advocated for the training of elders in the different communities so that they can also train members in their communities.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Mr Trevor Ayiri, the head of crime preventers,Amuru District. He applauded the initiative saying it will help reduce disputes adding the need for mass sensitization.
Mr Francis Okello, the LC I chairperson of Parabong Parish appealed to the courts to do more mass sensitization for Mediation especially in areas where there are land disputes.
As part of the sensitization campaign, a talk show in Luo was held on 102 Mega FMin Gulu.
Magistrate Grade I, HW Joseph Angole and Court accredited mediator William Okidi Lodwar had a live interaction with the public.
Some of the areas that have been sensitized include Layibi, Pabbo, Parabong, Lacor,Wer, Lamogi, Lolum, Koch Goma, Alero, Purongo and Anaka
